My job is IT Infrastructure Manager.The other day I found some guys replacing the door as part of a project by the building maintenance dept to make all the doors in the building compliant with fire regs.There had been to specific mention to me that this. It has more to do with saving time no matter how fast my Internet connection is, since my 1 Gbps connection to the IT server trumps waiting for any Internet connection I've ever used! :-) If all drivers I have are up-to-date, just copy/paste the whole driver folder to the Desktop of the computer that needs updated, and go to town installing.
And usually there is only one-or-two to download, since driver updates taper off for older models, and your repository eventually becomes "Law". When I get a laptop back in the shop to reinstall, I double-click each component's hyperlink, check the driver release date, and if I have the most resent version already, I don't have to re-download. We keep a repository on our IT server with a folder for each of our Dell models and a sub folder for each component named with its release date and driver version, such as audio, touchpad, network, video, etc., with hyperlink shortcuts in each root folder. "I need downloads all the time for new machines and wipes."ĭriver and BIOS upgrades are a "rinse-and-repeat" process, so why not download it once and then store it yourself.
